Meelad Dezfooli didn’t let anything stop him from his dream career. While still in grade school, Dezfooli began working at his father’s local flooring store.

Sadly, when the recession arrived in the late 2000s, his father had no choice but to close down his stores and retire. Dezfooli, who had believed he would one day run the family business, was despondent.

“By the time I turned 18, everything was starting to fall apart, the market was in ruins, many accounts defaulted, and my dream was taken from me,” he remembers.

Forced to switch gears, Dezfooli opened a Persian restaurant. Even though he found some success, he still desperately missed the flooring business. “I realized I loved the industry and the people around me,” he says. “I was nostalgic for the culture, the employees.”

Over the next five years, Dezfooli worked over 12 hours a day, seven days a week, doing anything to save the money needed to start his own flooring company. The endless, grueling hours paid off. By 2015, he was back in the flooring business, founding Best Buy Flooring in Henderson, Nevada. The business has flourished and expanded to multiple locations.

Now that he’s the owner of a highly successful business, Dezfooli shows his gratitude by helping local heroes. He offers generous discounts to veterans, police officers, and other service people.

“After what they’ve done for our country, it’s my honor to give them a better price,” he says. Not one to forget his roots, Dezfooli made a point of hiring several of his father’s former employees, some of whom came from troubled backgrounds.

“He had employees who may have had a small [police] record, but they were some of the best people,” he notes. “My father always taught me to give people a second chance. And I know as much as anyone the blessings of a second chance.” Read even more info on https://www.inc.com/synchrony/built-from-the-ground-floor-up.html.

Here are a few recommendations about flooring styles

How Important Is a Flooring Material’s Thickness? Thin vinyl flooring is more likely to split or break during installation. That could mean you’ll have to buy more flooring to cover those accidents. Focus on vinyl flooring with a thickness of 7 mm or more; you can find thickness information on the product’s label or online product page. Thickness can be a factor in the durability of other flooring materials—and for solid wood, its ability to be refinished. (New solid wood planks are typically ¾ inch thick, enough to withstand multiple refinishes.) Does the Thickness of a Floor’s Wear Layer Matter? The wear layer is the clear protective coating applied to the top surface of a manufactured floorboard. Home Depot lets you search flooring by wear-layer thickness, shown in mil (thousandths of an inch). A thick wear layer sounds like it would protect better against foot traffic. For instance, between two vinyl flooring products with 20-mil wear layers, one earned an excellent score for foot traffic resistance while the other ranked below the middle. Bottom line: Don’t depend on the reported thickness of the wear layer alone.

Laminate Flooring – Pros: Constructed of dense fiberboard topped with a photographic image and a clear-plastic protective layer, laminate can mimic almost anything. Some brands use a cork backing to help muffle sound. The best laminates resist scratching and discoloration from sunlight better than most wood products. It can be extremely tough stuff. Cons: The repetitive pattern can compromise realism (read: look fake), so when installing, mix planks from different boxes for less repetition. Minor flaws may be repaired, but you’ll have to replace the flooring once its top layer has worn through.

A few recommendations on flooring design

How Important Is a Flooring Material’s Thickness? Thin vinyl flooring is more likely to split or break during installation. That could mean you’ll have to buy more flooring to cover those accidents. Focus on vinyl flooring with a thickness of 7 mm or more; you can find thickness information on the product’s label or online product page. Engineered Wood Flooring – Pros: Because engineered wood is made of thin layers of wood sandwiched with adhesives, it can withstand higher levels of humidity and is less likely to expand and contract than solid wood flooring. This flooring uses a thin veneer of real wood or bamboo over structural plywood, making it a cost-effective choice. Well-installed, high-quality engineered wood can be as durable as solid wood. Cons: Engineered wood performed about the same in our denting and wear tests as did solid wood and laminate, but fewer engineered wood products earned top marks for wear. Depending on the thickness of the top “wear layer,” some engineered wood flooring can be refinished once or twice, and some cannot be refinished. (According to the National Wood Flooring Association, wear layers of less than 2.5 mm usually can be recoated but not completely refinished.) If you anticipate that you may need to refinish your engineered wood flooring, check with the manufacturer or retailer before you buy.

Every natural stone has its own level of required maintenance. Even among granites or marbles, there are variations. However, most granites are lower maintenance than most marbles. For granite, all stones except black should be sealed shortly after installation. A well-sealed stone will bead water on its surface. When the water stops beading, the stone must be resealed. In addition, always wipe up spills as soon as they are seen to prevent potential staining, and wash the stone with a PH-neutral cleanser to prevent etching or removal of the finish.

Marble has long been used in European kitchens, even though this gorgeous stone can stain and discolor with use. And despite its reputation as high-maintenance, its classic, luxurious look has arrived in many American kitchens. “People like marble for its natural beauty, even though it can show wear and tear over the years,” says expert Michael Bruno, a salesperson with the tile and stone company Ann Sacks. “Every house in Europe has a stone countertop—it’s only in this country that people think everything has to look brand-new.”

There’s a lot you can do on your own for a bathroom remodel, but if you’re touching plumbing or electricity, you will need to hire a professional. A remodel is a great opportunity to assess if your current bathroom is working for you and move outlets to a more convenient location or update plumbing to more efficient versions. Does the layout of the bathroom work for you? It may be easier than you think to freshen the layout of your bathroom without actually making a lot of changes. For example, an easy option is to rip out a linen closet and replace it with cabinets. It’s a big change without the added expense of moving plumbing. And let’s be real about the purpose of a bathroom and not forget the little things, like where is the toilet paper holder going to go? Plan the flow of your bathroom strategically and you’ll avoid any unwanted surprises later on.

Maintenance: Sealants are used on both granite and marble to prevent staining and etching. Marble requires sealing much more frequently i.e. twice a year (recommended by professionals) whereas for granite sealing once every two years is sufficient. The actual requirement for resealing depends on how heavily the surface was used and how regularly the stone’s cleaning was done. Find additional information on https://www.hmgstones.com/.

Getting to Know Marble and Granite: These are natural stone materials, and both are porous. If you want the technical details, marble is a metamorphic rock formed from recrystallized carbon. It is formed out of limestone that is subjected to intense pressure and heat due to tectonic shifting in the earth’s crust. On the other hand, granite is an igneous rock composed of grains of compressed quartz, feldspar, mica and similar materials. This means that granite is slightly harder than marble, but both offer reasonably good durability.
