Get to know Gerard Bryceland and some of his painting opinions? While drawing from life with a self-portrait involves using a mirror, and it is challenging, it’s also a challenge that is definitely worth taking. Many artists will tell you that there’s nothing quite like drawing from life, so even though drawing while looking in a mirror might be difficult, it’s quite rewarding. One thing you can do to make the process a bit easier on yourself is to take a backup photo. Once you have your pose in the mirror down, take out your phone and take a quick picture. You can use this as a guide to ensure that your light source doesn’t change and to help you capture little details that may not show up in the mirror. Sometimes less is more. But that’s not always the case when you are drawing a self-portrait. You could draw a minimalist self-portrait, and it could turn out amazing. But if you want to do a highly detailed self-portrait, you are going to have to spend some more time and effort on the process.
Drawing the Eyes: At the middle of the center blue line, draw two almond-shaped eyes. Did you know? Human anatomy is quite amazing. The space between the two eyes can be measured with a ‘third eye’. This is the approximate separation between the two eyes, leaving a perfect space for where your nose will be placed! With this in mind, make sure that the space between your eyes isn’t too narrow nor too wide. Getting the eyes as right as you can is very important in portrait drawing. Now, let’s fill in the other details. In the middle of each eye, draw a big, dark circle and a smaller one at the center of it. These are your irises and pupils. Add the eyelids by drawing two curved lines on top of your eyes, use the shape of your already drawn eyes as a curving guide.
Gerard Bryceland‘s tricks about portret painting: The overall balance between the eyes is a key element in achieving any likeness. You should build up the painting of both eyes at the same time in order to capture the balance between them. This essential relationship is far more difficult to achieve if you bring one eye to a state of completion and then start on the other. A variety of small brushstrokes using stippling (paint applied in dots) and smudging techniques is used throughout the painting of the skin. Stippling gives you the greatest control over the distribution of color when applying paint over larger areas such as the cheeks.
You could try freehand drawing your face. This is the most straightforward approach, but that doesn’t mean it is the easiest. With this approach, you look at yourself in the mirror, or look at a photo, then simply start sketching what you see. Pay attention to the major shapes you see and pay careful attention to how your features relate to one another. You also need to pay attention to the light source, so you can render your face with realistic highlights and shadows. When using this approach, start out your drawing with light, sketchy lines, then slowly darken your drawing as you render it, but only after the initial sketch is in place.

She has been awarded with the Auguste Rodin prize, hosted a tv show and few weeks ago one of her works, a 70 thousand usd painting, was stolen from a Pasadena private collection. In this interview the Chilean artist set in Concepcion, answers it all.
How do you feel about the art market? I am intellectually interested, I studied art history so I am supposed to be able to put a price on a painting, but I think I am mostly concerned with the inner quality of a product and not its fame or with whom the painter is friends with. I think we should be allowed to have an opinion and not be dependent on what others think, so I have a sort of critical approach.
You seem to move from one style to another with some ease. You say it because one day I paint abstract and other I paint flowers? Yes, I like switching because I like freedom of thought, because with the abstract painting I can make emotional, personal statements. With flowers I get to communicate with nature, and the beauty that surrounds us all, I get to capture a particular moment, a particular quality of the light, a particular shade of a color. Many of my floral paintings are in hospitals in the USA, I’ve told that people feels more calmed when seeing an object of beauty on their waiting.
You seem like a happy person, what do you want to communicate with your art? I want to communicate emotions, personal thoughts, ideas I explore on my daily life. I want to share the beauty that’s around us.
She also said that, with abstract painting, she can make emotional and personal statements, “many times people say that abstract art is nothing, but I believe in my experience and that the evoked feelings are transmitted clearly, there are several of my paintings in that I sought to communicate an emotion in the first look, and in a second look a conflicting emotion, and spectators rea not aware of this intention, are completely capable of discovering these emotions, ” she added.
Despite being away from the spotlights and concentrating on her art, during this year, Tamara wants to carry out some activities to spread her extensive artistic work. “I decided to make some changes, I realized that, in my own land, my art is not known, so I will do some exhibitions, we are studying together with the Rural Village Corporation and the Conception of Art, to make an exhibition of my works in the Windsor Room, I think it is an important step to work the closeness and knowledge with the community, ”he said.
